Storms dumped rain and hail across the state Tuesday and Wednesday, with strong winds and lightning also affecting certain areas. One woman lost her car to a sinkhole and barely escaped thanks to a bystander who helped her get out of the car.

A massive sinkhole opened up and swallowed a Toyota RAV4 SUV on Oxford Avenue in Sheridan Tuesday evening.

Two firefighters and another person are in the hospital after a crash at 2:30 a.m. Tuesday morning. A van was swept into a sinkhole near Old Pueblo Rd. and Birdsall. The driver of the van left the scene and minutes later, another car was swept away. When firefighters responded to assist, their truck ended up in the sinkhole, landing on top of the car and trapping a person inside.

People who live in an Englewood neighborhood hit by flooding this week say the woman who got trapped in those floods didn’t have to die. Neighbors are angry the city has not done more in the wake of the tragedy and the severe damage caused to many homes, and more importantly, has not fixed what they call a failing storm drainage system.

There are families really struggling to recover after storms last week, after it brought tons of rain and hail leaving streets underwater. The floodwaters rushed into people's homes in Englewood, many of which were told not purchase flood insurance because the homes were not located in a flood zone.
